Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs when certain elements in soil, rocks, and water break down. It is colorless, odorless, and can enter through cracks and holes in the foundation beneath your home.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends installing a professional radon mitigation system if your home's radon level tests at or above 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). Because radon is an odorless, invisible radioactive gas naturally occurring in Southern Indiana soils, long-term exposure is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.


How does an active sub-slab radon depressurization system work?

An active sub-slab radon mitigation system uses a specialized inline radon fan connected to PVC piping sealed into your basement floor or crawl space slab. The fan creates a continuous vacuum underneath the foundation, drawing radon gas out from beneath the slab and venting it safely above your home's roofline before it can seep into living areas.


How quickly can a radon mitigation system be installed?

Most residential radon mitigation systems are installed within 4 to 6 hours. Once installed, Gudorf places a continuous post-mitigation monitor or follow-up test to confirm that indoor radon levels have successfully dropped below the EPA action threshold.
